Position Description:  Classroom Teacher

Position Goal:  To instruct Preschool to grade 8 students in core curricular areas as determined by the MA Curriculum Frameworks and the curriculum of Berkley Public Schools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Appropriate MA DESE teacher certification
• Ability to communicate effectively with appropriate age group and provide excellence in instructional practice.

 

Reports to:  Principal.  Work cooperatively with other teachers and supervisors who have different instructional responsibilities for his/her students within the school setting.

Supervise work of teacher assistants, instructional aides, interns and student teachers as assigned.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Plan and implement high quality, developmentally appropriate lessons for students based on state curriculum standards and Berkley curriculum.
2. Know and follow procedures which have been established for the health, safety, security and well being of students.
3. Achieve an in-depth understanding of the physical, social, intellectual and emotional characteristics of the age group of the students in his/her classroom.
4. Help students to develop efficient and effective ways of learning and studying.
5. Help students grow in their skill, understanding and appreciation of writing, speaking and listening abilities.
6. Establish and maintain a stimulating environment for learning, using varied techniques and groups of students as appropriate.
7. Help students grow in their ability to work with others in classroom and school situations.
8. Model the effective use of technology within the classroom setting.
9. Help students to evaluate their work and to grow and learn in a positive manner as a result of the evaluation process.
10. Develop and maintain effective communications with parents.
