Position Description:      Special Education Paraprofessional

 

Position Goal:       To assist the teacher in providing learning experiences that will

                              increase the opportunities for learning and improve basic skill levels.

 

Qualifications:           

  1. High school diploma or its equivalent, AND
  2. Associates degree (or higher) OR one of the following:

 

Organizational Relationships:

  1. Reports to principal or designee and cooperates with supervising teacher.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

Instructional Activities:

  1. Work with individual/small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  2. Work with large groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  3. Implement instructional activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
  4. Assist teacher with motivating students.
  5. Demonstrate attentiveness to the needs of individual students.
  6. Provide feedback to teachers on student progress.
  7. Assist with checking student work.
  8. Assist with classroom management
  9. Assist classroom teacher with planning of instructional activities.

 

Non-Instructional Activities:

  1. Assist with supervision of students as assigned.
  2. Assist with clerical assignments and duties.
  3. Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  4. Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in his/her role.
  5. Treat confidential matters appropriately.
  6. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Evaluation:      Will be conducted by the principal (or designee).
